| Any season is a good time to be in Yosemite; winter brings snow and ice, spring brings green growth and flowers, summer brings water to the waterfalls and warm weather, and autumn brings a slowing and a "goldening" before winter sets in. I don't get to Yosemite nearly as often as I would like, and I've only been there a couple times in the autumn. This time, I was there on a photography weekend with Charles Cramer, a local photographer who specializes in making magnificent dye transfer (and now EverColor) prints.
I had two strikes against me on this trip. First, the weather was problematic (it rained/snowed the day we arrived, and the winds were quite strong throughout the weekend). Second, I had just purchased a new lens that required changing some settings on the camera each time I used the lens, and I was new enough to it that I often forgot to set it up right, or to return the settings after I was done with the lens. With these two strikes against me, I wasted a lot of film taking blurry pictures (long exposures in which the tripod vibrated because of the wind), or incorrectly exposed pictures (forgot to make the correct lens settings). Nevertheless, I managed to take a few pictures I'm happy with, and learned about a lot of excellent spots to return to someday when the wind is not blowing so hard. |
