September highlights:
- Learned to point at objects with his finger by the beginning of September. By mid-month, he loved to run dad ragged by having dad carry him while he constantly points at things all around the house, directing dad to a new object each time we reach the one he was just pointing at. By the end of the month, he had become especially fond of (and extremely adept at) pointing at each lawn sprinkler in the yards between our house and the neighborhood park.
- By mid-month, learned to push his toy ice cream truck around on his knees (see picture below). He loves to push it all the way across our living room, getting stuck when it runs into a wall, chair, or other large object.
- Learned to crawl around while holding onto items.
- Loves to brush his teeth. Takes his baby toothbrush and plays with it in his mouth for several minutes. Sits quietly and seems to enjoy it when mom opens his lips and gently brushes his front (and only) teeth with his brush .
- By mid-month, learned to respond to a variety of questions (e.g., "where's the moon?", "where's the birdie?", "where's the airplane") in English and Chinese by pointing. His answers are almost always correct, except that after dark, he gets the moon confused with street lights. Before dark, he can easily find the moon, and will sometimes call our attention to it by spontaneously pointing to it.
- Happily grabs his baby hair brush and "brushes" his hair. What he actually does is randomly bump different parts of the brush against the top and sides of his head.
- Learned about sharing. Will happily correctly respond to "give that to mommy/daddy". Crawls over with the item and hands it to us.
- We learned that he's a bit nervous in the dark. He cries a lot when riding in car at night, and we can sense that he starts fidgeting when we go into a dark room carrying him. He also draws close to us when we carry him in the dark.
